Living with the flame
Trim the wick to about five millimetres before each light, and let the first burn reach the rim so the wax pools all the way across — it sets the rhythm for every burn after. Keep it out of draughts, away from anything that catches, and never leave a flame unattended. When the wax has had its life, warm water and a soft cloth bring the ceramic back; the matte body may deepen a little with time, which is character, not a flaw. After that the vessel is yours to keep — a small, glazed thing for whatever you like.
